Bay Area & Silicon Valley Corporate Offsites

Since 2012, Carmel Food Tours has hosted Bay Area and Silicon Valley corporate groups looking for an offsite that doesn't feel like an offsite. Just 2 hours from San Francisco and 90 minutes from San Jose, Carmel-by-the-Sea offers the perfect mix of world-class food, coastal charm, and team-building experiences — no flights, no hotels required. Unlike a typical resort offsite, Carmel itself is the activity: a walkable village where exceptional food, local history, and coastal beauty do the work of bringing people together naturally. Whether you're planning an intimate leadership retreat or an energetic group event for 100+, Carmel Food Tours has a curated experience for your team.

Sales Pitch

For Bay Area and Silicon Valley Teams, Carmel Hits the Logistical Sweet Spot

Roughly 2 hours from San Francisco and 90 minutes from San Jose, Carmel is close enough that no one needs to book flights — but far enough that the office genuinely feels left behind. The moment your team crests Highway 1 and catches a glimpse of the Pacific, the mental shift happens. Laptops close. Slack fades. People start talking to each other again. It's one of the most effortless corporate group experiences you can plan — and one of the closest. Carmel Food Tours also serves groups arriving from Monterey, Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove, and the broader Monterey Peninsula.

A Town That Does the Work For You

Carmel-by-the-Sea isn't a resort town where everyone retreats to their rooms between sessions. It's a walkable, charming village packed with galleries, wine tasting rooms, boutique shops, and exceptional food. You don't need to manufacture fun or force connection through ropes courses. The town itself is the team building activity. You just show up and let Carmel do what it does naturally.

Why Food Tours Work for Corporate Team Building

Sharing a meal builds trust in a way that no keynote or breakout session can replicate. A guided corporate food tour moves your group through Carmel's most distinctive culinary stops while weaving in local history and coastal charm — resulting in something rare: a corporate group experience that's genuinely fun, pressure-free, and naturally brings out the best in people. No forced icebreakers. No one staring at their phones. Introverts and extroverts alike find their footing, and conversations spark between colleagues who've never had a real chance to connect.

It Works at Every Level of Your Organization

Bay Area tech teams, law firms, financial services groups, and healthcare organizations have all used Carmel Food Tours for everything from 10-person leadership retreats to 120-person all-hands events.

For HR and People Ops leaders: it checks every box — employee engagement, inclusion, culture-building — without the logistical headache of complex programming. The corporate group experience is fully guided and turnkey, so you can enjoy the day alongside your team.

For executives and leadership teams: it creates the relaxed environment where candid conversations actually happen. Breaking bread together levels the playing field in a way a boardroom never can.

For team leads and managers: it's an easy win. No awkward team building programming, no one checking their phone. Just a shared group experience that makes people feel like a team again.

Our Corporate Group Experiences

Team Building Scavenger Hunt — A competitive, app-guided team building adventure through Carmel's art, architecture, and hidden courtyards. Ideal for groups of 20–120. From $59/person, minimum charge $1,180. Average duration 1.5 hours.

Private Food Tour — Five curated tastings, exclusively for your group, on your schedule. Our most popular corporate group experience for leadership retreats and smaller teams. From $919/group (up to 20 guests per group, up to 3 groups on a single day).

Classic Food Tour — Our flagship public tour with 890+ five-star reviews. A great option for smaller teams or individuals joining a larger corporate offsite. From $139/person.

We also offer Vine & Village (wine-focused private corporate groups) and Curated Carmel (VIP incentive experiences with boutique access and premium add-ons) for teams wanting a more tailored group experience.

FAQs

How far is Carmel-by-the-Sea from San Francisco?

Carmel is approximately 2 hours south of San Francisco via Highway 101 or the scenic Highway 1 — an easy drive with no flights required.

How far is Carmel from Silicon Valley / San Jose?

From San Jose and the South Bay, Carmel is roughly 90 minutes away, making it one of the most accessible full-day offsite destinations for tech teams.

Is this better suited for a leadership retreat or a large all-hands?

Both, depending on the experience. The Private Food Tour is ideal for leadership retreats and smaller executive groups — intimate, curated, and conversation-friendly. The Team Building Scavenger Hunt is built for larger all-hands events and accommodates up to 120 people. Many companies combine both in a single day for a full offsite program.

What makes a food tour better than a typical team dinner?

A guided food tour keeps the group moving, mixing, and discovering together — which naturally generates far more conversation and connection than a seated dinner. It's immersive, inclusive, and genuinely memorable.

What group sizes do you accommodate?

It depends on the experience. Our Team Building Scavenger Hunt works for groups of 20–120. Private Food Tours are designed for up to 20 guests (up to 3 groups/day). For larger groups, we can combine experiences or customize a program — just reach out and we'll figure it out together.

How far in advance should we book?

We recommend booking at least 2–4 weeks ahead for corporate groups to secure your preferred date. Popular spring and fall dates fill up quickly — many groups book 6–12 months out.

Do you handle all the logistics?

Yes — every experience is fully guided and turnkey. You show up, we handle the rest. No vendor wrangling, no itinerary headaches.

Carmel-by-the-Sea is already a special place, but experiencing it through Carmel By The Sea Classic Food Tour takes that charm to another level. What I expected to be a pleasant afternoon of tasting turned into one of the most memorable travel experiences and the best food tour we have ever taken. What really stood out was the variety and quality of food and drinks. Beyond the food, our tour guide, Bonnie, gave us a deeper appreciation for Carmel itself. We were fortunate to be the only four on the tour so we loved the extra attention. It’s easy to wander through and admire its beauty, but being a local, she connected us to the people and town. By the end, we felt like we had a new friend. If you’re visiting Carmel-by-the-Sea, this tour isn’t just something to consider—it’s something to prioritize. It’s the perfect blend of flavor, culture, and atmosphere, and it transforms a beautiful destination into an unforgettable one.

Great experience. Loved getting to taste at places I might have walked past. Honey of a story at the honey store. Perseverance, and knowledge at the sushi stop, accommodations made for people with food allergies.Out of state visitors were intrigued wanting to come back and folks from surrounding areas fou d. Eq places to enjoy.

We had a wonderful tour with this company. Learned some new things about one of our favorite towns, Carmel By The Sea!

Author: Elizabeth Bourget | Date: 2/22/2026 | Source: google | Rating: 5 stars

The tour was nice, and Bonnie was a very good tour guide. The first place we went to was a Patisserie. I have a gluten & dairy intolerance. They served clam chowder, and for me a small plate of lettuce that didn’t even have dressing until I requested it. Then she brought plain oil. I later read their menu online and there were lots of delicious choices. So, I was very hungry, on this expensive food tour, expecting some good food, and I was sitting there with a plate of lettuce in front of me.🤦🏻‍♀️They should either have a better substitute for people with food sensitivities, or not stop at that restaurant at all. After that, we stopped at a Mexican place, then Toro sushi, the Nut Hut, and a chocolate shop, which were all good. It was overall a delightful tour and a pleasant stroll around Carmel, but that weak plate of lettuce was such a disappointing start.

What an experience! My wife and I wanted a low stress way to fill the day in beautiful Carmel by the Sea. Doug and Paula really made us feel at home. They helped us experience the rich history of the area and showed us the nooks and crannies of this beautiful town! I highly recommend to any local or out of towner as a way to begin your stay. It will help you bypass the marketing gimmicks and tourist traps and get a local perspective of what’s good, what’s great and what to skip! The wine was good, but honestly secondary to the experience with our guides.

Author: Jesse A | Date: 1/23/2026 | Source: google | Rating: 5 stars

We took this tour as part of an annual girls’ trip, and what a fun experience! Our guide Bonnie gave us the inside scoop on Carmel lore, which was so fun. The 5 stops we made offered fantastic food, wine, and cocktails. I highly recommend this deep dive into Carmel culture and cuisine!

Author: Linda L | Date: 12/11/2025 | Source: tripadvisor | Rating: 5 stars

Our tour guide was great. She was very accommodating and I enjoyed the nuggets of history she provided. However, as someone who does not eat meat and gives far enough advance of food restriction, it would be nice to have an appropriate substitute. The first stop we went to was a French restaurant and it was French onion soup that had a beef broth. For the substitution, they provided iceberg lettuce with ranch dressing. Everyone enjoyed the soup. The salad was nothing to mention. I paid the same as everyone else and if you say you can accommodate food restrictions, it would be nice to have a thoughtful substitute. But other than that, everything else was very nice.

We are locals and absolutely enjoyed taking this tour with our entire staff for a team building day. What better way to enjoy your co-workers than walking around town eating and drinking and learning new things about our wonderful town. Lots of large portion samples. Very good food. A little bit odd that we had honey sampling at Carmel Plaza but left and came back later for donut sampling. The story of the young man that owns the honey retail store was very interesting. Very fun time. Wished that there would have been more historical information info provided while walking around. Nevertheless, awesome food tour.

Great tour of several local businesses and also a history lesson on Carmel by the Sea. The food we sampled was delicious. Was taken to places I would have never thought of going. Highly recommend

Author: Kara Folsom | Date: 10/9/2025 | Source: google | Rating: 5 stars

Our tour guide, Rusty, was wonderful. She shared her love of the Carmel area as we walked to our restaurants. The reason for only 4 stars is the choice of venues. We have done many food tours and are used to tastings seated in a restaurant. On this tour only 3 were seated. Of the remaining 2 one was a stop at a kiosk that sells nuts and salts where we stood and sampled nuts. The final stop was at a lovely chocolate shop where we were each given 2 small pieces of candy. There was nothing wrong with the nuts or candy but definitely not what we expected i. terms of a tasting.

We so enjoyed our food walking tour today with Bonnie. We were only a small group, but that meant we were able to chat easily and hear all the local information. First stop El Bistro by the Sea for Chilaquiles and strawberry mimosa! Not a bad way to start! Second stop was Alvarado Street Brewery for a drink and another yummy tasting plate (involving cauliflower!). Third pit stop was down a tiny side street to visit The Nut Hut and some sampling of organic nuts. Fourth stop was at Toro, for 3 tasting plates of Japanese food and 2 of sake. Finally we sampled a couple of exceptional chocolates at Lula’s. Wow! Bonnie is a local and proudly told us of her home town. Highly recommend!

Thank you to our wonderful tour guide, Bonnie, who did a great job. As a Carmel native, she knew all the great little alleyways and details that you could miss on your own. She also worked hard to make sure our orders were put in ahead of time to be ready when we got there. I liked that there are several restaurants that the tour can choose from so each tour will be a bit different, you are not going to the exact same spots as every tour before you. They do a good job of trying to balance larger meals with some smaller snacks so that you are not so completely full halfway through that you cannot enjoy it. My favorite stop was Toro, a Japanese restaurant where we got to try sake and several other authentic Japanese cuisine. The sake, however, was unique and different than what I had had everywhere else in my life. That being said, I do wish that perhaps there was at least one more stop on the tour that was a bit more substantial similar to what we did at Toro. Our tour guide was excellent, and she pointed out several restaurants along the way that would be good for us to try, but I kept wishing that perhaps we could actually try one more of those on our tour. I would’ve liked to have had a little bit more of a substantial meal at another stop on the tour. Overall, this is a lovely experience I would recommend.

This was our first ever food tour and our first stay in Carmel. Our tour guide, Rusty, was a doll. We had a great time. Five delicious stops, local historical info and leisurely strolling around beautiful Carmel. Sparkling sake (who knew?!) to accompany real crab sushi at Toro Sushi and Sake is one example of the culinary tasting that awaits, and we got to walk through the Secret Garden to get there. 😋 Highly recommend!

Our group of 7 had a fantastic time with our guide Rusty who showed us the beautiful town of Carmel by the sea. We had plenty of food and drink at three different locations all equally tasty with varied food styles. Topped that with a stop at a chocolate shop and a local honey shop. Along the way she gave us interesting info about the town and showed us some of the secret passages and courtyards. It was a great tour.

I booked this food tour for my mom & I when we visited Carmel by the Sea a couple weeks ago. I've done food tours before while visiting other countries but it was my mom's first time ever doing one. She absolutely loved it, as did I. Soup, Honey tasting, sushi and donuts, what's not to love? We loved the variety of foods we got to eat and spots we visited along with learning the history of Carmel. Our tour guide, Amber, was fantastic! It was also enjoyable to meet other people on the tour. Highly recommend if you are visiting Carmel-by-the-Sea!

Biggest takeaways:Food: It was nice to stop by many local restaurants and small shops to do tastings!Hosts: Our host, Bonnie, and a trainee, both did a great job! They were enthusiastic, informative, and locally well known around the area.Price: Above $100, and worth every penny. We felt like VIP at every food tasting we went to.Feedback: Sometimes it felt weird that the host would step away after introducing our food tasting. I would have love to have them stick closer, maybe eat with us sometimes, especially when one party size dominates another (my wife and I did this tour with a large family).Overall thought: A must-do for those that are visiting! Not only is this a food tour, but lots of history and architecture to hear and see!

We spent an enjoyable afternoon on Monday doing the Carmel Food Tour. We were spending a few days on the Monterey Peninsula and had not really explored Carmel before. Our guide, Bonnie, led us to five fabulous food stops while showing us local points of interest, including the Eastwood Building, a local park, examples of Fairy-tale Cottages, and ways that houses were identified without street numbers. She also gave us some tips for sightseeing after the tour. Our first stop was Patisserie Boisserie on Mission Street where we had an incredible French onion soup paired with a crisp Chardonnay. Next up was Alvaredo Street Brewery and Bistro which featured a tasty fried cauliflower dish and a beer (other adult beverages were available). We cleansed our palates next at Carmel Honey Company as the founder and owner, Jake, presented four different honeys, both by themselves and paired with fruit or cheese. Stop four was El Bistro for chilaquiles and a champagne cocktail. The tour concluded with some delicous samples of Lula's Chocolates. Our thanks to Bonnie for making us feel at home in Carmel. We'll definitely do this tour again when we're in the area.

And she did this all in a way that made for a great time, cheers.

Bonnie was great! She gave insightful details of the town. So it was a great combination of a walking & food tour. I would recommend taking this tour at the start of your stay. I did mine on my last day and I'd like to go back to some of the restaurants to try other dishes on the menu. The food selection was OK and the most interesting experience was the honey tasting & pairing at the Carmel Honey Co. What I find a little awkward was the guide not dining with us. You need to get her a seat & plate as it takes away the pleasure of eating when your guide stands next to you watching you eat.

She clearly loves her job and her town and is a credit to your team. It was also good to hear from some of the owners of the establishments we visited in particular El Bistro and the Carmel Honey Company. Our group of ladies on a birthday girls weekend trip did this exceptional tour led by Amber. As a Monterey born and raised local, Amber did a seamless job of delivering history, architecture, food, and wine tips. Our group had the opportunity to meet several restauranteurs, who all shared their passion for the community and cuisine. The highlight was 21 year old Jake Reisdorf of Carmel Honey Company, who started his business at the old age of 12 and has grown it into a multiple location retail empire. We appreciated the attention to detail, the excellent wines, and the generous portions of food (definitely plenty to satisfy your lunch). I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. One of our ladies was gluten-free (allergy, not preference) and every location did a beautiful job of accommodating her since we had communicated that in advance. We had a wonderful time!
