If you’re a lover of art in all its forms, an avid collector, or you’re just looking for an interesting way to spend an afternoon, Carmel has a delectable array of more than 100 art galleries to choose from. Here is a sampling to whet your appetite.
Mountainsong Galleries
This gallery boasts more living artists than any other gallery in the world. Joan Potter, Daniel E. Green, Alan Wolton, Nancy Bush, and Barry Stein are among Mountainsong’s team of more than 30 OPA and AIS master artists. As well as a diverse collection of paintings, the gallery is also home to bronze sculpture, glass art, and custom furniture. Exhibits can be visited daily. Appointments may also be made for private viewings.
Gallery Sur
The Gallery Sur is home to a breathtaking collection of custom fine art photography of Big Sur and the Monterey Peninsula as well as the Pebble Beach Golf Links. These scenic shots taken by prominent photographers such as Joann Dost, Winston Boyer, David Gubernick, and Charlene Mitchell are unique in both their locations and perspective.
Gallery Elite
The Gallery Elite is renowned for its superb collection of international fine art. This two-story gallery has more than 6,000 square feet of floor space and around 16,000 square feet of wall space, making it well worth the visit to see contemporary works by artists including sculptress Nancy Bowman, oil painters David Brayshaw, Max Yoon, Davor Zilic, and Eugene Van Essen.
Park Gallery
If you’re looking for something a little more contemporary, Park Gallery is the place go. Park has an exciting collection of fun and affordable oil paintings created by artists including: Marilou Kundmueller, Joe Carter, Phillip Barlow, and Patricia Kimball. Park also has sculptures by Faustino Alzkorbe and Jorge Egea.
Gallerie Amsterdam
Gallerie Amsterdam has been a notable mainstay of Carmel’s fine art community since 1995. It is home to works by some of the nation’s most talented sculptors and artists including: Eduardo Camoes, Bethane Cople, Fred Arends, and Randy Blasquez. The gallery has a friendly and intimate atmosphere allowing you to view the artworks at your leisure. The gallery’s founder, Anthony “Tony” Vanderploeg, is one of the world’s leading experts on Bentley and Rolls Royce automobiles.
